Winemakers would have benefited from facilitating zero tolerance for drunk driving, but then the government quickly backed down. The public would not support the measure.

At the beginning of October, the Minister of Agriculture, István Nagy, mentioned at an event in Villány that a dialogue could be started to loosen the zero tolerance for alcohol consumption before driving, recalls Napi.hu. The Government Information Center has already told the RTL Club, “Professional organizations recommend this every year, but people do not support relaxation, so the cabinet has no plans to change the regulations.” And Chancellor Gergely Gulyás also said on the government’s information that the issue is not on the agenda.

A joint and representative survey by Napi.hu and Pulzus Kutató now revealed that a convincing majority of respondents, 58 percent, said the current rigor was appropriate, and only 17 percent believed a glass of beer or wine would fit. before driving. Men are more permissive (or indifferent) because 28 percent of them would also allow some consumption behind the wheel, while the same rate for women is 9 percent.

It can also be observed that the older a person is and the more educated he is, the more he rejects the elimination of zero tolerance. It also turned out that they don’t drink as much in the countryside as they do in Budapest, but in the capital they agree that you can’t drink a drop of alcohol before someone sits in a car.
