The public procurement call was published in the Official Journal of the European Union for the preparation of construction plans and large-scale licenses for the next phase of the interlocking power grid in Buda, wrote Dávid Vitézy, executive director of the Development Center of Budapest (BFK) on its Facebook page on Thursday.

BFK described it in a statement sent to the MTI: the development of the interlocking tram network of Buda will continue in the second phase on the banks of the Danube, south of the Szent Gellért square, on the quay of the Technical University and on the promenade Pázmány Péter to the area of the Kopaszi dam. The terminal will be in Budafoki út, the line will also connect with the new Redondo Sur railway stop, Nádorkert.

The new line, under the direction of the Budapest Development Center, will run partially on a grassy track, along the quay of the University of Technology and the Pázmány Péter promenade in the university quarter and the Infopark, then it will turn into Dombóvári út and will provide a connection to the city center with the public park of the Kopaszi dam and the new residential and also to the office district.

On the community side, CEO Dávid Vitézy emphasized that two important steps were taken on Thursday to continue the interlocking tram network in Buda.

One is that an agreement has been signed with Mayor Gergely Karácsony to take on the second phase, that is, the project to build the tramway at the Technical University pier. He recalled: Balázs Fürjes, Budapest and the Secretary of State for the Development of the Agglomeration proposed in the October meeting of the Budapest Public Development Council (FKT) that various investments agreed by the government and the capital be assumed by the government and implemented by the Budapest Development Center.

Separately, a public procurement call was published on Thursday in the Official Journal of the European Union for the preparation of full license holders and construction plans for the next phase of the interlocking power grid in Buda, he added.

He recalled that plans had already been made for the section of the line before, but based on the decision of the government and the FCMC, it was necessary to review them to minimize the number of trees affected and ensure the coastal route on foot and by bicycle without obstacles. In addition, the plans must fit in with the new bridgehead of the southern ring road, which will allow a significantly wider passage at the gate of the Kopaszi dam, said Dávid Vitézy.

He mentioned that it will be possible to switch from the revolving tram to tram 1, Budafoki út buses and commuter trains at the new Nádorkert stop of the South Circuit, and there will be a connection to the north on lines 19, 41 and 56 and towards Pest in direction to lines 47 and 49.

There will be seven pairs of stops without barriers: in Szent Gellért square, on the quay of the Technical University on Bertalan Lajos street, at the Buda end of the Petőfi bridge, on Pázmány Péter promenade, in the south block of ELTE, in the Buda end of the Rákóczi bridge, on the road at the terminal.

The CEO wrote that the plans will be completed in 2021 and they are confident that they will be able to begin construction of the new tram line in Budapest soon after.

Preparatory tasks are financed by the government from the central budget, the work is carried out by the Budapest Development Center under the supervision of the Secretary of State Balázs Fürjes, in cooperation with the municipalities of Budapest and Újbuda, the Transport Center of Budapest (BKK) and BKV, said Dávid Vitézy.
