In fact, fewer yawned the last weekend before the store closed than a year before. For whatever reason, many people still wanted to buy a blue bag and kitchen furniture corner strap.

Coronavirus – the second year

It has been more than a year since the Chinese authorities informed the WHO of the emergence of a new, rapidly spreading virus. Since then, there has hardly been a person in the world who has not heard the term Covid-19, and more and more people are mourning the family member or friend with whom the new disease ended as stocks collapsed in weeks and our entire lives. they were rewritten by the epidemic. By now, the vaccines have been completed, which in turn raises not only hope, but again many questions, while not only stopping the virus, but also threatening another mutation. You will find the details of this fight in our series of articles.

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the government ordered the closure of stores that sell non-vital items starting on March 8. Because of this, tumultuous scenes occurred in some places over the past weekend, including Ikea furniture stores.

Over the weekend, the most popular products were items related to kitchens and storage solutions.

– heard from Tímea Münzner, deputy store manager of hvg.hu’s Örs vezér terei unit, who said that legs and accessories that could be connected to Besta warehouses and Metod kitchen furniture were in high demand.

The five most popular products were the Frakta bag (i.e. the iconic blue shopping bag), the Utrusta kitchen corner hinge, the Oftast tableware, the Ryet LED light bulb, and the Alkalisk items.

The weekend was the last chance for shoppers to shop in person before closing, which was used by quite a few, but the number of visitors was down compared to the same period last year, Tímea Münzner said. In one store or another, however, serious lines could be seen. This can be explained, on the one hand, by the fact that several people tried to enter this morning and, on the other hand, by the fact that Ikea limited the number of customers allowed at once – they were warned in advance.

In contrast, the so-called median value of the basket was higher than the number of shoppers, according to the deputy store manager: “We think shoppers wanted to be prepared to spend more time in their homes now, possibly anticipating their planned purchases.” .

Not only for this weekend, but in general, the habits of Ikea customers have changed. “Home has become one of the most important places in our lives in the last 12 months and in relation to that, we are seeing a change in what our clients are looking for,” says Tímea Münzner. Thus, interest in products related to work from home and homeschooling has increased, but food storage and storage solutions are also becoming popular.
