The prime minister responded to criticism from German Social Democratic politician Martin Schulz.

Viktor Orbán, a leading EU opponent of German Social Democrat Martin Schulz, accused Hungary of oppressing the press, anti-Semitism and profit. Deutschlandfunk in a statement on the radio.

In response, Orbán, through the Prime Minister’s Press Office, wrote that Schulz was wrong because

Contrary to his claim, the Hungarian press is freer and more diverse than the German one. And in the case of anti-Semitism, what is happening in Germany today is unthinkable, which is the outright harassment and abuse of Jews. “

According to Orbán, “Mr. Schulz” has been attacking Hungary for years because it protects its borders and does not accept immigrants. “However, the connection between the two is obvious.”

“But their biggest shock is the EU funds,” the prime minister said, saying that Schulz and many other Germans pretended to be giving money to the poorest countries and contributing net.

However, the opposite is the case: they are the net beneficiaries of a European economic system called the single market. They return part of their profits in the single market to the other Member States through the budget of the European Union, most of which is tied back to them. This is the reality of the balance of economic power in Europe and we must live with it. But it is a grave hypocracy if some German politicians expect us to be even more grateful for that. “

According to Orbán, in the case of Hungary, the richest states of the European Union, led by Germany, spend about 6,000 million euros a year in various areas. Meanwhile, Hungary receives around € 4 billion a year from the EU budget. “The situation is clear. Germany’s money does not cost Hungary’s membership in the EU, but Germany makes money from us,” says the prime minister.

According to Orbán, the inherited Western competitive advantage will diminish as Central Europe catches up, and by the end of the 2020s, partly thanks to the European Union’s policy of convergence, a level playing field will be established. “In the meantime, we are asking Mr. Schulz and his friends for more control,” he wrote.
