The government accepted the proposal from the Medical Chamber, with a bill on the salary scale to be presented to Parliament on Monday.

The government has accepted the proposal presented by the Hungarian Medical Chamber (MOK) for an unprecedented salary increase, and an agreement has been reached to withdraw the thank you money, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced in a video posted on his website. Facebook after several months of preparatory work on Saturday morning. after – the government delegation and the chamber met.

The topic of discussion was the situation of the coronavirus epidemic. “We can all see that the epidemic is on the rise, and as long as there is no vaccine, it will stay there,” the prime minister explained, adding that after the previous day’s talks in Brussels, he could realistically expect there to be no vaccine until mid of the next year.

Therefore, in the next seven to eight months, hospitals will be under enormous pressure. Both doctors and nurses will need superhuman work to “cure all infected people and provide them with adequate care,” said Viktor Orbán.

He said the medical chamber had made it clear and the government agreed with him that this superhuman work could hardly be done by doctors at current salary levels.

“We need to work together, this is the time when we need to achieve a great improvement in the pay of doctors,” stressed the prime minister.

He announced that the salary schedule and the proposal presented by the chamber, which had never been seen before, had been approved by the government and that the bill would be presented to Parliament on Monday. It was also agreed that in parallel, thank you money would be withdrawn from the Hungarian care system.

“There is good cooperation between the medical chamber and the government, cooperation can also take place at this level. If we cooperate, we will achieve it, because we have achieved it once,” said the prime minister.

In the video, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán did not speak about the schedule of the salary increase, but on Friday the Hungarian Nation wrote that the government is thinking about a three-year increase, next year by 80 percent and in the following years. by 20-20 percent. Minister Gergely Gulyás said in the government briefing on Thursday that he was aware that compliance with the chamber’s request was worth hundreds of billions of guilders, and also noted that there is now much uncertainty in the budget.

It is not known whether the three-year increase was finally agreed upon, as promised by the Hungarian Medical Chamber later. In a previous interview with hvg.hu, MOK President Gyula Kincses spoke about the fact that a rising but prolonged salary increase does not have the professional and political benefits of a lump sum, a more meaningful article. “The other is that with a drop in salary increases, the political-professional benefits would also be lower, people would not feel that health has finally received the publicly appreciated salary that recognizes the paramount importance of the sector, after which it can begin the campaign to eradicate gratitude money. “These two are related,” he said at the time.

His original January proposal was:

Then, even before the epidemic and the ensuing economic recession, part of the pay increase was requested this year and the rest in 2021.

The MOK proposed an amendment to the Penal Code for gratitude money, and the organization would also penalize the acceptance of gratitude money and its payment above a certain amount.

In the chamber’s view, the parasolvency ban would not negatively affect 94 percent of the Hungarian medical community, as they do not receive thank you money at all or in an amount that would not be compensated by the salary agreement.
