An important event must be held to issue a joint statement by the Minister of the Interior, the President of the State Audit, the Attorney General, the President of the MNB, and the President of the Curia, the National Judicial Office, the Public Procurement Authority and the Office of Economic Competition. Now this is what has happened: Together they are sending a message that they are committed to fighting corruption.

It is not often that we already know the title of a press release, we have to write news about it, no matter what the material is about. Such an inspiring moment came now that an email had arrived with the subject:

In addition to the fight against corruption and the Hungarian rule of law, the Ministry of the Interior, the State Audit Office, the Curia, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the National Judicial Office, the Public Procurement Authority, the Hungarian National Bank and the Hungarian Competition Authority make a joint statement.

There’s something to talk about about Hungarian corruption: With ten years of hard work, Hungary has moved from middle to second worst in the European Union in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, and the EU Anti-Fraud Office reports that most of the EU money is fraudulent. However, it was not a sincere surprise that the Minister of the Interior and the first man of the seven institutions declared in the joint statement:

In Hungary, the rule of law is also applied correctly in the fight against corruption, and the organizations we lead are committed to cooperating in the fight against corruption ”.

The authors of the statement also stated: “The Hungarian Basic Law, Hungarian laws provide an effective rule of law framework for the fight against corruption, and the integrity approach that ensures the suppression and prevention of corruption has been strengthened. and institutionalized in Hungary since 2010 “.

Anyone who had expected some valuable insights into how the national cooperation system occupied organizations whose task it would be to prevent corruption should have been disappointed. Rather, we learned that

Hungary’s economic achievements, the dynamic growth of the Hungarian economy in recent years and its sustainable whitewash support the effectiveness of systemic action against corruption ”.

But we cannot rest on our laurels, as “protecting these results requires specific action and close cooperation.”

We are fans.

The corruption situation in Hungary is even sadder when we look at the performance of others. Apart from us, only Slovenia in our region has worsened its state of corruption since 2012, but they have also fallen by only 1 point in the list of the hundred, while we have dropped 11.
