We are the first country to join an international but essentially military air transport project, at least according to the German armed forces.

Hungary is the first country to join the program of the German Luftwaffe Multinational Air Transport Unit (MNAU) – the Index noted the news posted on the German Armed Forces website.

In relation to the 40 military A400M propeller aircraft ordered by Germany in 2017, the German Federal Ministry of Defense proposed the establishment of an International Air Transport Corps (MNAU).

“With the establishment of the implementation team, the first real positions were created at the MNAU base in Wunster, a step that is another milestone in the implementation of the multinational military airlift project. With the integration of the first officers of the Hungarian Air Force, our cooperation with our Hungarian partners began ”, quoted Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz, inspector and chief observer of the Luftwaffe, who said on the occasion of the installation of the air transport unit .

Ten more A400M aircraft are said to be in service to the unit at Lechfeld Airport soon.

The Index writes that MNAU member states derive significant benefits from cooperation as they can coordinate their aviation activities and air transport needs, on the one hand, and save significant costs and resources while increasing environmental protection.

During the implementation of their previously agreed flight plans, program participants can be transported by German pilots and vice versa, and partner countries will have the opportunity to use their own aircraft inside the corps.

The portal notes that all this suggests that Hungary may buy A400 transport aircraft in the future.

Népszava’s summary shows that in December 2018 the Hungarian government purchased a total of 44 Leopard 2A7 + heavy tanks and 24 Panzerhaubitze 2000 (Pzh 2000) self-propelled guns from the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, and in September this year the secretary of the government commissioned for the development of defense, Gáspár Maróth, the Hungarian Armed Forces acquired 218 Lnyx-KF41 infantry fighting vehicles.
