Next year, the University of Theater and Film Arts will be able to manage from HUF 3 billion, according to government information. According to Gergely Gulyás, students and workers who want to protest can still do so.

At the government meeting on Wednesday, he decided to support the budget support of the University of Theater and Film Arts next year while maintaining the closure of the border, announced Thursday the minister who heads the prime minister’s office on government information. Gergely Gulyás said that, according to the request of the board of trustees, more than double the amount so far, HUF 3 billion, will be allocated to the operation of the institution.

The minister also spoke about the amount that the board headed by Attila Vidnyánszky could have.

  • 1.5 billion HUF to support training,
  • 500 million for infrastructure development,
  • 300 million for teacher training and master’s courses,
  • 200 million HUF for salary settlement,
  • 150 million for temporary campus rentals,
  • And 50 million will go to prepare the campus project,
  • and the institution will even have a reserve of 300 million HUF.

Gulyás added: “We continue to consider it important that, as is customary in democracy and the rule of law, whoever wants to demonstrate and protest can do so within the constitutional and legal framework, and those who want to learn would be happy if they were taught.”

He stressed that the SZFE case belongs to the board of the Foundation for Theater and Film Arts, which took over its operation, and not the government, the government has only one option: to provide adequate resources for the operation of the institution .

It was later mentioned in the report that after the Vas street building, which was occupied by the university a month ago, another Szentkirályi street, home to the Institute of Film and Media, was also blocked by students. Gergely Gulyás said in this regard to “take note” and then reiterated that the Board of Trustees must deal with education.

He also noted that he hopes that the parties will reach an agreement as soon as possible, and those who want to learn can do so.

The students, the dismissed management and the professors of the University of Theater and Cinema have been protesting for months because the majority of the government on the governmental side decided to change the institution’s model against their will, without taking into account their arguments and suggestions. The management of the university, under the leadership of Attila Vidnyánszky, was assumed by a board of trustees, which did not include any of the persons designated by the management of the institution. At the end of August the entire leadership of the SZFE resigned and the Senate, after considering that all the essential elements of autonomy had been abolished by the new maintainer, was deprived of all powers in the new memorandum of association. Their notice period expired on September 30 and they were fired that night.

Then, in the student forum on Wednesday night, the decision was made to also occupy the building on Szentkirályi Street.

University staff are on strike on October 1 and 2, protesting against the abolition of autonomy.

Earlier in the week, Attila Vidnyánszky replaced the university’s rector, Lajos Vonderviszt, who was replaced by Colonel Gábor Szarka. Magpie tried to enter the university building on Vas Street on Tuesday, but the protesting students would not allow it. 444.hu knows that the new rector told the university’s middle management on Wednesday: if he cannot enter the institution, he will not sign anything and there will be no salaries.

On Wednesday night, Attila Vidnyánszky announced on public television who will be the new vice-rectors of SZFE: the film director Emil Novák and the producer János Zalán.

Since his appointment as colonel, Gábor Szarka, the new rector of the University of Theater and Cinematographic Arts, has been steadily advancing through the ranks: after his position as Ministerial Commissioner, he was responsible for the state industrial parks and then for the campus. from the National University of Civil Service. Although you can hardly find information about him other than his official biography, if the board headed by Attila Vidnyánszky was looking for a loyal official with good government relations for the position, it seems like a perfect choice. At best, due to their journalistic qualifications, some may raise their eyebrows.
