People with diabetes have at least twice the risk of Covid-19-related death from a new type of coronavirus, according to a recent study, writes the MTI.

The Lancet, a British medical journal, said Thursday that it “ became clear that people with diabetes are more vulnerable, at least twice as likely to develop a serious illness or die during a public health emergency ” after being infected with the new type of coronavirus.

“People who are diabetic but do not treat or adequately treat their diabetes or have other diseases are particularly at risk,” scientists and doctors from Australia, China, the Republic of South Africa and the United States have found.

According to a global aggregation from Johns Hopkins University, nearly 1.3 million people have died from Covid-19 caused by SARS CoV-2.

According to official figures, more than 52 million people have been infected with the virus, although the United Nations’ World Health Organization (WHO) said in October that the true number could reach 700 million.

The number of adults with diabetes in the world in 2019 was estimated at 463 million. Last year, about 4.2 million people died from diabetes or its complications, according to the study authors, including scientists from the University of Hong Kong and Imperial College London.
