Attila Fülöp was born in Szombathely in 1942 and studied at the Budapest University of Technology, where he graduated as an electrical engineer in 1966. His first job was with the Hungarian record company, where he worked as a sound engineer, and from 1965 he learned to sing privately. .
He joined the Opera in 1971 as a partner, and a year later he became a soloist. He made his debut as Otto del Bánk bán, then sang the role of Tamino in The Magic Flute and the Count of Almaviva, the barber of Seville, László V in Hunyadi, Frho in the Treasury of the Rhine and later Mime.
During his three decades on stage career, dozens of memorable character and lyrical performances have been associated with his name, his repertoire ranging from pre-classical to contemporary roles.
In addition to his career as a private singer, he worked first as a union leader, then, since 1996, under the administration of Miklós Szinetár, he became Secretary General of the Opera, and between 2003 and 2005 he became its executive director. He recently directed club afternoons for the Budapest Friends of the Opera Association.
