The news was communicated to Origo by Szilveszter Ókovács, Director General of the Hungarian State Opera.

Tamás Busa, the opera soloist, passed away. The 66-year-old artist’s death was announced by the institution’s director general, Szilveszter Ókovács.

Born in 1955, Tamás Busa began singing professionally relatively late after completing his instrumental studies. He completed his university studies in Szeged in 1990, when he became a soloist at the Szeged National Theater. He first performed at the Opera House in 1992, then only as a pop-in. He worked outstandingly, became a permanent guest artist in Budapest from 1997 and until 2019 he sang 694 performances at the Opera, the Erkel Theater and the Bánffy Hall. The audience could be seen in a total of 44 roles, 20 main roles.

The director reminded us that Tamás Busa had eight children and six grandchildren.

“With a broken heart I say goodbye in the name of operas to Tamás, the great artist, the likeable man, the head of a very large family who will also miss us, but from then on he will be really shocked. And since he was the type of artist who hadn’t trampled orders of merit, and his spaceless service had never won an award, only I was lucky enough to reward his particularly strong and affectionate lyrics with a Melis Award within the institution. bosom – here in the direction of Opera I introduce him to what I know: to the line of the heirs of the Opera, as the artist who served the entire Hungarian opera representation with the same love and professionalism. Posthumously, unfortunately. I’m so sorry, ”he wrote on New Year’s Eve.

Tamás Busa battled the coronavirus infection for about a month before his organization gave up.
