There is growing resistance from students and professors to the erosion of the autonomy of the University of Theater and Film Arts (SZFE) due to the government’s decision to continue the university as a foundation under Attila Vidnyánszky. More and more world-famous artists are joining the solidarity movement around SZFE, but the Vidnyánszky family is not expanding. You can follow the latest developments in the SZFE scandal in our article series.

After Judit Hernádi, the two presenters of On The Spot, or András Stohl, Krisztián Grecsó also stood in front of the mill of students protesting the reduction of the autonomy of the university. The writer commented on the photo documenting this with the fact that “the space plague can be managed.”

SZFE students have been slowly occupying the Vas Street building of the University of Theater and Film Arts for two weeks, signaling with their symbolic act that they are not calling for a new board of directors led by Attila Vidnyánszky and a law that seriously violates the independence from the university.

Students, teachers and those who agree with the students have since passed a lifelong demonstration that has moved thousands of people, and now on Sunday instructors such as Szabolcs Hajdu, Ildikó Enyedi, Tamás Ascher, Sándor Zsótér and László Bagossy will teach alternative classes on the street.

The former editorial office of index.hu has essentially ceased to exist, the country has lost its most widely read online interface. This is one of the most serious blows to the independent Hungarian press and freedom of information to date. The number of independent power editorial boards is steadily declining, and those that still exist are trying to stay afloat in a growing headwind. At HVG, we persevere, not giving in to pressure to bring national and international news every day.

That is why we ask you, our readers, to support us, support us, join our membership and renew it!

And we promise to keep doing our best for you in all circumstances!
