A crocodile was spotted near a river near Frankfurt, local authorities said Tuesday, according to the MTI.
The meter-old young reptile was spotted on the Ortenberg boardwalk by a local who notified authorities. Authorities warned breeders to take care of their poultry and also warned nearby dog owners. However, it was emphasized that the animal is not dangerous to humans.
The report did not show how the crocodile got to central Germany.
Police and local authorities have asked the public to report if the crocodile reappears and to try to monitor it from a safe distance until help arrives.
A local resident took a photo of the crocodile last week, according to which a zoologist confirmed his claim.
Meanwhile, in the southern part of Saxony-Anhalt, a bathing ban was imposed over the weekend when a crocodile was spotted in the Unstrut river. According to experts, the crocodile has since been able to reach Hamburg.
This detection of crocodiles has not been associated with the Ortenberg case.
