Sziszek-Monoszló county chief Ivo Zinic told reporters Monday that nearly 3,000 buildings had become uninhabitable. The earthquake severely damaged four cities in the county with a population of 116,000: Sisek, Petrinja, Glinan and Hrvatska Kostajnica, as well as several districts. The damage affects fifty thousand inhabitants.

So far 14,171 reports of material damage have been received, of which 4,194 buildings have been inspected by experts. Of that, a thousand are temporarily and 800 completely unusable, the foreman said. However, he added that hundreds of agricultural buildings, 11 schools and almost all churches in the earthquake-affected area were damaged, five of which completely collapsed.

He stressed that the biggest problem is housing 500 families, and that number will continue to grow. So far, two hundred residential containers have arrived in the county, but at least 1,000 of them would be needed, he said.

Zagreb County Mayor Stjepan Kozic said more than 1,000 properties were damaged by the earthquake in Zapresic, Velika Gorica, Ivanic Grad and Jastrebarsko, as well as in several districts. In Zapresic, three housing blocks had to be evacuated. All 81 families stayed at a nearby hotel, but many sought accommodation with family and friends. The city’s court building, People’s College and St. Peter’s Church were also damaged. The earthquake damaged 300 buildings in Charles Town County.
