The number of tests performed is not yet known, which is always much lower on weekends than on weekdays. The average number of tests performed on weekdays exceeded 20,000.

The current number of active infections has approached 24,000. Although the disease is mild in most cases, 516 people are already treated in hospitals, 94 of which are serious, that is, with a ventilator. By Saturday, 499 people had died from the infection.

The number of infections has increased at a rapid rate since the beginning of September. The worst situation is that of Prague, where there are already 216 confirmed infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

In the so-called traffic light system, in which the epidemic situation in each region is indicated with colors, the Czech capital was the only one in the country to receive the color red on Friday, which means the most serious situation, the uncontrollable community spread of the epidemic. In Prague, therefore, the universities and colleges will close as of Monday and switch to distance education. Originally, this measure would also have affected secondary schools, but due to protests from educational institutions and parents, the introduction of distance secondary education in Prague has been withdrawn for the time being.
