“We have to get used to this virus staying here with us. The state of emergency needs to be extended, the epidemic is not over yet,” Babis said in a conversation on the commercial channel Radio Z Babis said that it would be useful that in the next weeks as many people as possible could work from home and not have to walk to their workplace.

The Czech government declared a state of emergency on October 5, which remains in effect until November 3. However, under current rules, the extent of the state of emergency cannot be decided by the government alone, for which it must seek the support of the House of Representatives. The state of emergency provides the government the legal opportunity to take action against the coronavirus epidemic more quickly and easily.

The prime minister called on the population to behave responsibly, to adhere to precautions, because that is the only way to combat the epidemic. “I ask everyone to take things seriously because we did not realize the increasing number of people who need hospital care,” Babis said.

In the Czech Republic, 12,472 new infections were identified on Saturday, a record for the weekend, more than 3,000 more than last Saturday. The number of deaths in the epidemic so far has risen to 2,077. Hospitals treat 5,314 people, 772 of whom were classified as serious by doctors.
