Records, 1,541 new coronavirus infections were detected by laboratory tests in the Czech Republic on Saturday, almost a hundred more than the highest number of cases registered on Friday, according to the latest data published on the website of the Ministry of Health on Sunday by the morning. The number of infected people per day has increased despite the fact that typically far fewer tests are performed on holidays than on working days. On days off, the highest number of cases so far was 507, which has now been exceeded by more than a thousand. The daily number of new confirmed infections topped 1,000 for the first time on Tuesday and has been rising steadily since then.

The number of active cases currently exceeds 13,700. In most of them, the course of the disease is smooth and mild.

The ministry’s morning report said 297 people were already hospitalized with Covid-19 disease on Saturday, 69 of whom were classified as serious by doctors and on a respirator. These numbers are also constantly increasing. The death toll rose from three to 453 on Saturday.

From March 1, when the first infection was detected in the Czech Republic, to Saturday, 35,401 coronavirus infections were screened in laboratory tests. About two-thirds of them have been cured. The number of day lab tests has recently been around 15,000.

The positive case rate was five percent on Monday and nine percent on Thursday. That figure fell to eight percent on Friday, likely as a result of a record 18,200 tests.

The coronavirus epidemic is spreading at an increasingly accelerated rate throughout the country, which is why the ministry on Friday revised the so-called traffic light system, in which the epidemic situation in each region is marked with colors. The red region representing the most serious situation is not on the map. Of the orange region that indicates the community extent of the epidemic, which is one degree lower than the red one, but instead of the previous one (Prague), there are already six, mainly the districts around the capital and Uherské Hradiste in Moravia del South. Instead of the previous ten, 40 districts have been colored green, indicating a lower risk, covering more than half the country. There are 70 districts in the Czech Republic. The number of blank rides, indicating a problem, is decreasing.

There were 162 infections in the southern part of Pilsen, 142 infections in the Kladno district and 137 infections in Prague on Saturday. In addition to this contiguous area, there are five more districts with hundreds of hundreds of thousands of inhabitants.

Starting Thursday, protective masks must be worn in locked rooms across the country. Until now, masks were only mandatory in public transport, sanitary facilities and offices. In the orange regions, nightclubs and bars should be closed at midnight.

On Wednesday, the government decided to send the most vulnerable citizens over 60 free respirators (FFP2) and five masks from the state reserve fund. The Interior Ministry said the items would be delivered by the post office next week.

According to data published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, 11 countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and Ireland, restricted the entry of Czech citizens or made them dependent on a recent negative corona virus test until Friday in view of the deterioration of the epidemic situation. Some other countries, including Slovakia, have indicated that they are considering some form of restriction or regulation on the entry of Czechs. (MTI)
