The new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was detected in 3,878 new Hungarian citizens, increasing the number of infected people identified in Hungary to 79,199. Most of the 69 deaths were elderly, chronically ill, so the number of deaths increased to 1,819 and 20,078 have already been recovered. The number of active infections is 57,302. 25% of the actively infected, 33% of the dead and 28% of those recovered are from Budapest. 4205 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, 306 of whom are hooked up to ventilators.

The number of new cases per day is the second highest on record so far, only slightly below the peak reported yesterday. The number of deaths is a new record. Both indicators show a marked upward trend, indicating that they are in a phase of strong acceleration of the epidemic in Hungary.

The rapid increase in the number of severe cases indicates a worsening of the epidemic situation. The number of people treated with a ventilator has exceeded 300, which is apparently far from the 800 number that is considered the capacity limit, but observing the trend, the stock could increase by up to 100 per week, which will allow us to get closer to it quickly. The number of hospital admissions reached 4,000 yesterday, increasing even more today. Based on the trend, we can expect an increase of around 2,000 per week in the near future, which means that the number of deaths is expected to increase further.

In the last 24 hours, 21% of the tests were positive. The trend is also upward here, indicating that under-detection may intensify, so the epidemic may escalate faster than detected.

Hungarian epidemiological statistics thoroughly mixed up regional data, reducing the number of infected people by a total of 181 people in four counties since the start of the epidemic. The typical reason for this is usually reclassification (in some cases it turns out that the actual place of residence is in an area of the country other than the one originally indicated), but so far no revision of this magnitude has been carried out. The change mainly affects the western Hungary region, but Hungarian statistics never say where the cases came from.

Another interesting fact is that in the last 24 hours many new infections have been found in the municipality of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén. The 1,623 new cases recorded are by far the highest ever measured in a Hungarian county (including the capital). The phenomenon is very strange, there has never been such a spatial concentration in the data, at least as far as the population distribution is concerned.

All this means that, while until yesterday the counties of Nógrád and Vas were the most infected area in terms of population in terms of the number of cases in a week, Borsod has suddenly advanced dramatically, well ahead of all other counties Hungarians.
