Coronavirus: It is already clear where the number of infected people can increase again: the latest sewage data has arrived

In week 45, the concentration of coronavirus hereditary material in wastewater increased in Kaposvár, Kecskemét, Miskolc, Nyíregyháza, Salgótarján, Székesfehérvár and Szolnok, according to data published on the website of the National Center for Public Health (NNK).

Hereditary coronavirus material can be detected in significant amounts, in moderate or high concentrations, in the sewage in almost all the settlements studied by NNK.

The trend of concentration change is increasing in many settlements, and although several settlements have experienced stagnation in virus concentrations in the last week, the results support that the spread of the epidemic is continuous, with a significant number of symptomatic infections and asymptomatic throughout the country.

Why is wastewater testing important?

Sewage tests also provide information on asymptomatic or mildly asymptomatic infections, as they can also discharge the hereditary material of the virus, but would not be within the scope of epidemiology during traditional screening tests.

The role of individual responsibility in risk reduction continues to be emphasized, notes the NNK.
