8,637 new cases were registered, increasing the number of infected people identified to a total of 679,413 since the beginning of the epidemic, writes koronavirus.gov.hu. Today’s case count is slightly down from 9,000 in the past two days, and based on a 7-day moving average, we appear to have broken below the 8,000 daily average:

Most of the deaths were in 242 chronically elderly patients, bringing the number of deaths to 21,504. The number of deaths has decreased somewhat in recent days, but they still represent outstanding deaths from home, the Hungarian healthcare system is known to be extremely overburdened.

At first glance, it appears to be positive news that the number of people hospitalized and ventilated is also declining, but this decline is also partly due to the fact that many have unfortunately died. There are currently 11,383 coronavirus patients in the hospital, 1,437 of whom are on ventilators. The number of people hospitalized decreased by 364 in one day and the number of people on the ventilator by 30.

Unfortunately, the Hungarian health system still filters only a few cases, as evidenced by the fact that almost 23% of the tests were positive, although the authorities carried out 36,598 tests in 24 hours.

Vaccination is ongoing, the number of vaccinated people is 2,235,731, of which 891,002 have already received the second vaccine. According to recent data, 22.88% of the Hungarian population have already received their first vaccination and 9.12% have received the second.

Due to their vulnerability, the vaccination of registered seniors continues online, 83% of those over 65 registered so far have already been vaccinated. The vaccination will continue during the Easter holidays. Hospital vaccination points receive vaccinations organized by family doctors, and family doctors who also vaccinate during holidays are entitled to an additional payment.

Starting today, in Budapest, in addition to the consultations of family doctors and hospital vaccination points, specialized clinics will also participate in the vaccination, so that as many people as possible can receive the vaccine during the Easter holidays .

Enrollees organized by GPs in the capital are vaccinated on Saturdays and Sundays at the 18 designated specialized clinics. Extraordinary vaccinations of previously registered kindergarten and school teachers continue to be administered at hospital vaccination points.

Looking at the breakdown by county, the majority of new infections were recorded in Budapest with 1,375 people, followed by Pest county with 952 people. There were more than 500 daily cases in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg.

In terms of weekly cases, Budapest also stands out with 8,575, followed by Pest County with 7,811 inhabitants. There have been more than 3,000 cases in Fejér and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties in the last week.
