The epidemic in Hungary is not decreasing, at least in terms of the daily number of infections. The one-week peak is 6197 people. The 7-day moving average value, on the other hand, fell cautiously, but further to 4,735. This means that the epidemic curve is gradually moving away from the peak observed in early December. Today’s data is above the seven-day moving average.

A slight improvement in epidemiological processes is indicated by the fact that, although the number of new deaths per day is stagnant (171 people), the 7-day moving average of coronavirus-related deaths fell to 158 people, a decrease 5 days on trend.

It also suggests a slight improvement that the number of hospitalized patients decreases on the third day, while the number of patients on the ventilator also decreases on the second day.

Even after the above data, we cannot be remotely satisfied, as the outstanding number of 6,197 infected people came from 28,603 samples, so the positivity rate is outstanding, above 21%. Interpretation of the data is complicated by the fact that it is not known how many rapid tests have been performed in addition to the above, on which we will get a large volume of weekly data on this early next week.

Therefore, in the light of all this, it would be premature to speak of a clear reduction in the epidemic curve and a spectacular improvement in the situation. A more convincing reduction in the number of daily infections would be needed to assess this more accurately.

Most of the new infections were identified in Budapest (790 people) and Pest County (751 people) in the last 24 hours. Third in line was Hajdú-Bihar County (405 people).
