In the Czech Republic, the number of deaths from the new coronavirus epidemic continued to rise rapidly over the weekend, while the increase in the number of confirmed infections has slowed in recent days, writes an MTI correspondent. According to the Interior Minister, the state of emergency until November 20 must be extended again.
Statements posted on the Health Department website Monday morning show that by Sunday night, the number of deaths from complications from the coronavirus had risen from 111 to 3,429. The daily death toll was practically more than a hundred last week.
The number of new confirmed infections on Sunday was 6,542, 760 less than the previous Sunday. However, the number of exams is usually much lower on weekends than on weekdays. However, the growth of confirmed daily infections has been slower for a few days than before.
At the end of the week, after a longer period of time, the number of hospital admissions also decreased moderately. 7,370 patients were treated in hospitals Sunday night, a few dozen fewer than Saturday. Of these, 1,156 patients were classified as serious by physicians.
The state of emergency remains
There are currently more than 180,000 active infections in the Czech Republic. Since the outbreak of the epidemic in early March, nearly 350,000 have been infected, and about 80 percent of cases were down through October. According to statistics, the number of people cured of the disease is 158 thousand.
The situation is no better for us
The spread of the infection was 1.1 on Sunday, according to the latest unofficial data, and has shown a moderate decline since the introduction of new precautions a week ago. Former Health Minister Roman Prymula has previously said that authorities will relax on precautionary measures if that indicator falls to 0.8.
Interior Minister Jan Hamacek, president of the national crisis team, said on Sunday that authorities will only relax precautionary measures if the daily number of new confirmed infections falls below three thousand. Haácek believes that the state of emergency until November 20 should be extended again.
In the Czech Republic, retail trade, a whole range of services and free movement are currently restricted. Wearing a mask is mandatory everywhere. Restaurants have closed, schools have switched to distance education, cultural and sporting events are on hiatus. According to a government decree, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Czechs can only leave their homes with certain specific exceptions, such as trips to work or a health problem, the Czech correspondent for the MTI reported.
