107 people, mostly elderly, chronic patients, died, and a further 2,995 Hungarian citizens were diagnosed with the coronavirus infection, koronavirus.gov.hu reported Saturday.

The government website wrote that the number of infected people in Hungary had risen to 400,111. The number of deaths increased to 14,252, the number of people cured was 304,680. The number of active infections was 81,179. The hospital treated 4,147 coronavirus patients, 351 of whom were on respirators.

There are 26,068 people in official home quarantine and the number of samples has increased to 3,480,444.

It was written that so far 427,309 people have been vaccinated, of which 172,739 have already received the second vaccination. According to recent data, a total of 35,488 people were vaccinated between February 19 and 20, a rate higher than ever.

Vaccination of the oldest registered for vaccination is currently underway at hospital vaccination centers (with the Pfizer and Sputnik vaccines) and GPs will continue to vaccinate chronic patients under 60 years of age (with the AstraZeneca vaccine ). In addition, vaccination teams will return to various nursing homes and second-round vaccination of healthcare workers will continue.

It was highlighted that in recent days, as in several European countries, the number of new infections and hospital patients has increased in Hungary, showing signs of the third wave. The British virus mutant is spreading rapidly across Europe, infecting more people and increasing the number of patients. Therefore, compliance with protective measures remains important. The government says restrictions can only be lifted gradually and responsibly, but people will also be consulted about the online consultation, which has already started.

At the suggestion of the government, Parliament began on Tuesday to discuss the extension of the emergency ordered by the coronavirus epidemic. The aim is to protect the life and health of the Hungarian people, as well as reduce economic damage and preserve employment, MTI quotes.

More people have been vaccinated than ever

So far, the government has ordered 19.7 million doses of Western vaccines, worth tens of billions of guilders, from various manufacturers. With few vaccines arriving from Brussels and slowly, Hungary is doing its best to have enough vaccine to begin mass vaccination, they wrote.

In addition to Western vaccines, enough Chinese Sinopharm vaccine will be available to vaccinate 2.5 million people over the next four months. The first Chinese shipment containing 550,000 doses of vaccine arrived in Hungary on Tuesday. And from Russia, the Sputnik vaccine is expected to be enough to vaccinate a million people in three months. Of these, the first shipment to vaccinate 20,000 people arrived in early February.

“Until now and in the future, only vaccines that are effective and safe based on research by the Hungarian authorities and that are already used in several countries could be marketed in Hungary,” he emphasized.

They added that vaccination is free and voluntary, so it’s definitely worth registering. More than two million people have already registered for vaccination on the website www.vakcinainfo.gov.hu.
