Prime Minister Michael Martin announced Monday night that the fifth highest grade of the epidemiological action plan will take effect, after the average number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per day reached 261.7 during this period. 1,031 new infections were registered on Monday.

At level five, the population is asked, among other things, to stay at home, to move only for exercise and the most necessary purchases, but no more than five kilometers away. Restaurants are take away only. Everyone should work from home, whose unique nature of work allows it. However, kindergartens and schools will remain open, teaching will continue with a personal presence.

In Ireland, with a population of 4.9 million, 51,000 people have so far been confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus, and 1,852 of them have died. Health experts previously suggested the introduction of Level 5 because it was estimated that all hospital intensive care units could fill up quickly if the epidemic did not weaken in the island nation. Ireland has one of the smallest capacities in the developed world to provide intensive hospital care.

In our previous articles we have already pointed out that many European countries already have measures at a similar level to spring austerity, and new countries are joining daily to introduce restrictions:
