A machine plant near Veszprém has decided to continue decreasing orders at its units operating in other countries and to close the factory in Nemesvámos.

At Nemesvámos, the MTD garden machinery plant will be closed permanently: the Caliber. The company, which also operates in the United States and Israel, said it can also meet customer needs at its remaining plants. The factory posted the news on the community site, with Mérce asking the territorially competent employment office if the company had announced a collective layoff, but did not receive a response until its article was published. The portal also contacted the mayor of the settlement, the first man from Nemesvámos, with a population of 2,700, to consult with company management next week. Even in small settlements, more people can lose their jobs with factory closings.

According to the company’s announcement, on August 7 a padlock will be placed in the factory permanently, while workers will still have to work. In the future, they only want to carry out logistics activities in Hungary, for this purpose they will only need fifty employees. The portal spoke with representatives of the Vasas Trade Union Confederation, it turned out that in this plant they could not organize the representation of the interests of the workers, because here the employees worked mainly on fixed-term contracts, so the fluctuation was quite large. However, the union leader who worked at the neighboring plant had more information about the company, according to him, the company also employed seasonal people, who mainly came from the Baranya region, and now will not have a job either.
