There is a sharp increase in the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic, which is expected to lead to a further increase in the number of infected, the national medical director told public media.

Müller Cecília As it were, a very active phase of the second wave of the epidemic can be observed in Europe and around the world, and Hungary is no exception.

He stressed that there are currently 2209 patients treated in the hospital, 200 of whom are on respirators. Cecília Müller said that hospitalization is already recommended for patients in risk groups, even in moderate cases, because in the case of certain underlying diseases, the health status of those infected can deteriorate from hour to hour.

He also said that thanks to the so-called rapid antigen-based tests introduced in recent days, a possible infection can be identified even before reaching the hospital, which is of great help to institutions.

Given the students’ fall break, the head doctor asked parents not to organize programs with other children, but to stay in their own home with their children.

He stressed that 100,000 children between 6 and 35 months have been prescribed the flu vaccine, which will be available to general practitioners as of next week. This amount will be enough to vaccinate the little ones and will be available free of charge as decided by the government, so it will not be an additional burden for families, said Cecília Müller, who pointed out that her grandchildren will receive this vaccine every year.

He said that the Hungarian pharmaceutical company Richter had made a product called remdesivir available for clinical trials. This drug has so far been considered effective by doctors against coronavirus, in the presence of other interventions.

Cecília Müller said that 41 patients with coronavirus are being treated in 41 hospitals with the aim of treating them in a more focused way in the future. He stressed that university hospitals raised to the forefront of defense have enormous capabilities.
