Card payments in OTP will change; will affect all customers

Starting November 2, there will be changes to OTP for online credit card purchases. This is because bank cardholders will have to prove in several steps that they are actually the cardholders they want to use. OTP Bank credit card online shopping will soon reach a new level: starting November 2, customers will be able to find multi-stage ID when shopping online with a card.

According to the bank’s announcement, those customers will be able to comply with the aforementioned strong customer authentication by the end of the year.

Customers who have not yet provided their mobile phone number to the bank, or who have not indicated that it has changed from the one provided above, should step in if they want to shop online with their credit card again next year.

How to prepare for the change?

  • Customers who do not have their mobile phone number set up for bank identification must first enter it and register for the Internet security code service in person at any OTP Bank account.
  • Anyone who has already set up a mobile phone number but has not yet registered for the Internet security code service can do so in the OTP SmartBank mobile application, or through the OTPdirekt Internet service, or in any OTP Bank account .
  • It should also be checked that those who have previously provided the bank with their contact details have a valid mobile number. Customers can check the mobile phone number in the OTP SmartBank mobile application, in the OTPdirekt internet service, in the OTPdirekt telephone agent service or at the nearest OTP bank branch.
  • Anyone who already has an internet security code service and uses the OTP SmartBank app should update to the latest version in early November.

How can customers identify themselves when they buy online?

OTP Bank customers will have two options for multi-step approval of their credit card purchases online.

  • They can choose the OTP SmartBank mobile application, so when they make a purchase, they will receive a pop-up notification on their mobile phone after entering their credit card details, clicking on it to enter the application, and then authorizing the purchase with an approval, such as one of your biometric identifications. For customers who have not yet downloaded the application, it is important to know that they must sign a contract with OTPdirekt to use it.
  • In addition to the mobile phone application, customers can also use the Internet security code received in the SMS to approve online credit card purchases, for which they must also enter the so-called TeleKode as of November 2. However, it is important that the default Telecode is changed before it can be used to approve online purchases. Customers can change the Telecode in the OTP SmartBank mobile phone application, through the OTPdirekt Internet service or by phone, or at OTP Bank branches.
