The highway operator increasingly uses so-called collision energy absorbers, which can protect those who work in the work area and even those in the vehicle that caused the accident.

In recent days, drivers on the M1 and M7 motorways have also driven two crash-absorbing devices, and the latter has also been captured by a camera on the road. As the company writes, the first case took place on the Bicske section of the M1 motorway, on the side leading to Hegyeshalom last Wednesday. The railing on the inner lane was improved, which also required the closure of the area. Despite clearly visible signs, a car collided with a device to protect workers. Fortunately, there were no personal injuries here.

A few days later, on the side of the M7 motorway leading to Budapest at kilometer 83, a similar scene also took place in the inner lane, this was recorded by a camera on the nearby motorway. The restriction was also in the inside lane here, and as you can see, several cars are speeding up in the immediate vicinity of the closed area. A minibus was still able to cut in front of a truck to avoid a collision. The first of the three cars behind him collided with the energy absorber, while those behind him could only get into the center lane with the trucks also moving quickly away.

In both cases, the highway operator, while writing, warned motorists in several steps about the expected danger. However, their experience is that many still drop out of qualifying at the last minute and may no longer have the opportunity to change lanes and collide with collision energy absorbers or collide with their passing vehicle.

These collision absorbing devices are only used once, so to speak, and are considered totally harmful if they do the slightest bit of damage. Depending on the type, they can cost between 3 and 5 million guilders, and on average motorists break at least 1 piece per month.
