We visited HTC Vive Cosmos Elite for a lightning test.

HTC Vive Cosmos Elite

Amid the massive hype that erupted years ago, next-generation virtual reality devices haven’t changed the world. There are a number of reasons for this, which we’ve written about in detail above, such as cumbersome handling, isolation, and image quality issues that contributed to the lack of revolutionary success.

Anyway, there are still companies that see fantasy in virtual reality (virtual reality). Among them is HTC, which a few years ago decided to invest heavily in this area and became one of the key players in the sector. In 2017, we also tested their fantasy product Vive, with which we had problems. The company could also feel where there was room for improvement, and since then they have unveiled several new features. One of its most popular products is Vive Cosmos Elite, which was introduced earlier this year and has already arrived in Hungary. Thanks to the company’s representative office in Hungary, we also borrowed one for a very, very short time to be able to test it as part of a lightning test. Basically, we asked ourselves if we had managed to move forward, solve the problems and who could benefit from such a tool.

Half Life: Alyx

The 1998 Half Life was a vintage maker in its day and a great success. Since then, several sequels have appeared for him, and it’s no exaggeration to say that the series has grown into a very serious fan base across the world. The player camp has been waiting for another installment for 13 years, and to everyone’s surprise, developer Valve has decided that the new episode will only play in a virtual reality environment. So here is another company that is confident that virtual reality is viable.

Half Life: Alyx also performed as expected in mid-March of this year and has sold over 300,000 units to date, an outstanding result compared to the need for a compatible VR kit to use (Valve Index, HTC Vive family, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, Windows Mixed Reality). It’s no exaggeration to say that Half Life: Alyx was expected to bring virtual reality to life, so right now this is perhaps the most important show in the entire virtual reality universe. The Vive Cosmos Elite also comes with a free copy, which we also got, so it made sense to try HTC’s new VR kit.

So, under a smoke, we could also get an idea of where virtual reality game development is going today, what to expect in this area in the near future. Obviously, this is a crucial point for the future of technology, since, of course, videos are also very spectacular, but basically games can be used to sell this type of product.
