The restriction announced Monday applies to supermarkets, drug stores and pharmacies.

Coronavirus: the second wave, the second closure

Later than expected by many, but in mid-November, the Hungarian government also decided to try to curb the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic by introducing restrictions. At the time of the decision, 5,000 new infections a day had been identified and the number of deaths from the virus mostly ranged from 50 to 100 in 24 hours. The first step is a partial closure, but how effective it is is questionable. Follow our news!

The details of the purchase time slot for the elderly ordered for protection against the coronavirus epidemic were published in the announcement of the Government Information Center and in the Hungarian Gazette.

According to the decree, there will be a commercial lane for the elderly every Tuesday from 09:00 to 11:00 from Monday to Friday (Monday to Friday) and from 08:00 to 10:00 on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

During this period, only people over 65 can enter.

  • to grocery stores,
  • drugstores (perfume stores, drugstores, household cleaning products, chemicals and toilet paper) and
  • to the store that sells the drug or medical device (pharmacy).

Seniors can also shop outside of the protected shopping time zone, so they are not excluded from this.

The government continues to ask older people to take care of themselves, avoid closed and crowded spaces and, if possible, ask their family members or even the local government for help with shopping.

Viktor Orbán announced on Monday that the Council for the Elderly had asked the government to reintroduce a shopping time zone. Unlike spring, when between 9 and 12 a.m., those over 65 and other hours could go shopping, this time the elderly can go to the store at any time, while the youngest can not enter the store for two hours in the morning.

The requests from the Council of Elders hardly surprised the government: the president of the organization was Viktor Orbán, the vice president was Katalin Novák, secretary of state for Family Affairs, and the prime minister invited 12 members to participate.
