Michel Barnier, Head of the European Commission Negotiating Delegation, arrived from Brussels to London a week ago and the two delegations have been negotiating almost continuously since then.

However, Barnier and the head of the British government delegation, David Frost, issued a joint statement on Friday night that the terms of the agreement had not been reached even after a week of intense negotiations, as disagreements in the more contentious areas remain important.

Therefore, the negotiations were suspended by the two Heads of Delegation and their superiors were informed of the situation.

Johnson and von der Leyen spoke by phone for nearly two hours on Saturday, agreeing that subsequent street advertisements said that while disagreements in several areas remained serious, discussions would resume in Brussels on Sunday.
