A test of a robotic dog park began on Friday at a large and popular public park in Singapore, Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. The four-legged headless robot, called Spot, will be accompanied by one person for the first two weeks, and thereafter will work independently.
The robot dog’s task will be to walk through the park and warn people resting there to observe the mandatory safe distance. Initially it will do so by playing a prerecorded message from time to time.
But a camera-equipped dog can do much more than that. They are already developing a program that will allow them to decide for themselves whether two people are too close to each other to ask them to walk away. Authorities also plan to use robots to assess how many people are in the park at one time. They promise that the data collected in this way will not be personal.
Incidentally, the Singapore government also deployed drones to assess the movement of the masses during the epidemic.
If the test goes well, such four-legged machines will be put into service in all city-state parks and national parks.
You can also see from the video above that the robot dog, initially at least until it gets used to it, can cause immediate bankruptcy, so the test is conducted during the least busy hours. The main meaning of using the structure is that, unlike live rangers, you cannot contract the virus.
The machine is made by an American company called Boston Dynamics and its silhouette has been known in recent years by anyone who is used to watching or sharing fun and interesting videos.
