In 1977, the newly elected president of the United States, Joe Biden, spent his honeymoon with his second wife, Jill Biden, the next First Lady, at Lake Balaton in Hungary. According to his interview with Népszava Charles Gati, a professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Strategic and International Studies, Lake Balaton was chosen on the proposal of parliamentarian Tom Lantos of Hungary. Lantos began his political career in Biden’s office.
