The minister believed that the number of hospital admissions would remain high for about two or three weeks, because the effect of the precautionary measures would only be visible with a delay of about two weeks.
The proportion of positive tests within all tests is slowly decreasing. The indicator is still high at around 27 percent, but it has been declining by nine percent since last week.
Blatny told reporters. “If I want to interpret the figures very carefully, perhaps we have passed some kind of peak,” said the minister.
The Czech Ministry of Health has shown that the spread of the epidemic has slowed in recent days, while the number of hospital admissions has stagnated. Wednesday’s data revealed 9,016 new confirmed infections were recorded on Tuesday, which is lower than the previous daily average and roughly 3,000 fewer than a week ago. Hospitals treat 8059 people with coronavirus, of which 1,191 are serious. 109 people died on Tuesday, according to the report so far, but this number always rises considerably as a result of subsequent clarifications.
Jan Blatny met with Education Minister Robert Plaga in Prague on Wednesday to discuss the situation of primary schools in the epidemic. After the talks, Robert Plaga announced at a joint press conference that the first and second grade elementary school students will return to their desks next Wednesday. Strict precautions will be taken during education and the use of masks will also be mandatory. The decision is not clear.
The opposition parties, which have long demanded the return of primary school students to their desks, welcomed the decision. The school principals ‘association, school unions and representatives of the parent community took a similar position, while the teachers’ union described the move as hasty.
In the Czech Republic, primary schools were closed in the first half of October, but this move was clearly not welcome. Some parents also objected because underage children could not stay home alone, which was a major concern for many. High schools and universities switched to distance learning in early October.
