Azerbaijan has admitted to firing a Russian helicopter into Armenian airspace for which the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry apologized, Russian news agencies said on Monday.

Baku tried to assure Moscow that the incident was not directed against the Russian side and offered compensation.

A Russian Mi-24 Russian helicopter was shot down in Armenian airspace, far from the Nagorno-Karabakh battlefield, near the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in Nakhchevan, the Russian Defense Ministry previously said. Two crew members died and one was taken to hospital injured. (MTI)
