Half a year after the spring outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. By Wednesday, the number of identified coronavirus infections in Hungary had risen to 33,114 – the pathogen had been detected in 816 people last day, according to the epidemiological information website.

A total of 9,726 lab tests were performed on Tuesday, a total of 781,023 so far. This means that 8.39 percent of the tests were positive. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that a country undergo satisfactory tests if the proportion of positive tests is less than 5 percent.

As a result of the coronavirus-induced illness, COVID-19, 24 people died on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 877.

Previously, there were no such cases of coronavirus-related deaths in a single day. The worst figure so far was on Monday, when COVID-19 took the lives of 20 people that day.

Among those who died Tuesday is a 21-year-old woman who has been diagnosed with severe thrombocytopenia (an abnormal decrease in the number of platelets involved in the blood clotting process) and brain hemorrhage. The other victims were between 52 and 89 years old, among others, they had not yet indicated what their underlying disease was.

So far, 9,149 people have been declared healed, so

the number of known active infections increased from 366 to 23,088.

The hospital treated 656 coronavirus patients on Tuesday, 29 more than the day before. The number of machine ventilated patients increased from 4 to 41.

There are 20,319 in official home quarantine, 231 more than on Monday.
