About 3,000 test sites were established.

Coronavirus – the second wave

Half a year after the spring outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. According to the signs, the second wave also reached Hungary. Follow our news!

The second round of national coronavirus testing began in Slovakia on Saturday, the Slovak public news agency TASR reported.

Unlike the first round, this time only about 60 percent of the districts are affected by the tests, which end on Sunday nights. This time, there are no tests in the two largest cities, Bratislava and Košice, for example. The result is expected on Monday morning.

In the first round, which took place at the end of last week, around 5,000 places from the population were sampled. The test was attended by 3.63 million citizens, two-thirds of the country’s population. Screening tests revealed coronavirus infection in 38,359 people, or 1.06 percent of all those tested.

Basically, the current exams only cover the 45 “red” districts, mainly in the northern part of the country, where the rate of positive tests in the first round was above 0.7 percent. However, for various reasons, test sites were also opened in 13 “green” districts where the number of positive tests was low. In areas inhabited by Hungarians, for example in Komárom, Dunaszerdahely or Nagykapos, tests are also being carried out.

About 3,000 test sites have been established across the country. About 4,000 soldiers from the Slovak Army help in the sampling. No major issues were reported as of Saturday afternoon. Prime Minister Igor Matovic has previously said that he would consider it a success if the number of participants in the current tests reached two million.

In Slovakia, 2,579 new confirmed coronavirus infections were detected in laboratory tests on Friday. The coronavirus infection killed 34 people on Friday, a new daily record in the country since the outbreak. The number of victims of the disease in Slovakia increased to 351.
