The Lutheran pastor could not even defend himself against the harassment charges, they claim.

He defended his pastor, László Donáth, accused of harassment, for the protection of the Lutheran parish of Star Hill. It was declared unacceptable in a joint resolution that “the ward leadership intends to remove the congregation’s elected pastor, who has been serving since 1988, in response to complaints for more than thirty years.” Besides, they say, they don’t even give Donát a chance to defend himself.

The leaders of the northern diocese of the Lutheran Church were approached by many who, decades earlier, Donáth had “approached them with physical contact in a way that was unacceptable, hurtful, harassing.” The presidency described the accounts as “realistic and credible”, while Donáth said they gave “evasive and defiant” responses.

“Meanwhile, László Donáth has retired. Although the congregation presbytery and pastor also wished to exercise the right to serve as an active pastor for another 2 years, the ward bishop did not consent, ”the statement said.

The Donáth congregation is asking Bishop Tamás Fabiny to reconsider this position, as they believe there have been no fraternal conversations in the last fifteen months, as well as a full investigation.
