The MEP on his Facebook page wrote that the new index is devastating. But maybe he was just kidding.

The index is devastating.
It comes back boring.
That’s. “

– Wrote a Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch in a Facebook post. A later comment, however, cast doubt on anyone who thought Deutsch really missed the old Index. In it he stated that

“We don’t explain jokes / jokes / bon mot.”

Opinions are divided in political circles on the extent to which the ruling party is responsible for the collapse of the Index and, in any case, it is telling that the new deputy editor-in-chief came from “around Fidesz.”

Szabolcs Dull, who recently received an award from the German press, was fired in July, and more than 80 newspaper employees also resigned after his departure.

The technical improvements of the interface are behind the fact that the page of the outgoing indexers called telex.hu could not be launched yet, says Márton Kárpáti, founder of Van Másik Kft., Who published the page, tells HVG. It also turned out that not all of the 90 former employees, some of whom were already in other media, could be employed. “But we thought hard: we want to make a page the same size, quality and profile as the Index,” he says. If so, it will require at least fifty journalists and a few staff members. According to Kárpáti, it is possible to start if at least the planned expenses for this year are covered. We estimate that it will be 200 to 250 million HUF. The fundraiser got off to a good start, with more than 23,000 donations offered to the newspaper in a matter of days. Since the lowest amount offered was three thousand guilders, at least 70 million guilders could have been accumulated, but it could be two or three times as much. We know they didn’t get a greater amount of multi-million dollar support from anyone, but many companies indicated they would advertise to them. After launch, all content will be available for free, but in the long run, the portal will be partially paid for. Radio Free Europe has also returned to Hungary as a multimedia website.
