The shipment is taken to the National Center for Public Health.

Coronavirus: the second wave, the second closure

Later than expected by many, but in mid-November, the Hungarian government also decided to try to curb the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic by introducing restrictions. At the time of the decision, 5,000 new infections had been identified per day and the number of deaths from the virus mostly ranged from 50 to 100 in 24 hours. The first step is a partial closure, but how effective it is is questionable. Follow our news!

6,000 ampoules of Russian vaccine have arrived in Hungary, Péter Szijjártó announced on the Facebook page of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He added that cooperation with Russia will continue on the basis of the previous agreement.

It was not named by the minister, but it is believed to be the Sputnik V vaccine. Earlier, Miklós Kásler, Minister of Human Resources, said that Hungarians could also participate in the tests: using the “generously offered” option, three to five a thousand Hungarian citizens could be vaccinated.

The shipment, which arrived on Monday, will be transferred to the National Center for Public Health, where Hungarian experts assure “another opportunity to make a decision on how to use the vaccine,” according to Szijjártó. At the same time, as was written about hvg.hu, this usage can hardly go beyond PR campaigns at the moment. Current Hungarian regulations do not allow mass vaccination of the Hungarian population with the Sputnik V vaccine in the foreseeable future.

According to Péter Szijjártó’s announcement, 40,000 people in Russia are already beyond clinical trials, the result of which shows an efficiency of 91.4 percent. In the past, however, several scientists have argued that they may have falsified the results of Russian coronavirus experiments. Russian doctors are also wary of vaccination, mainly due to the lack of public information about vaccination.

Even if a Russian vaccine arrives, it is certainly still not possible to use it en masse in Hungary

At the moment, the government can use the Russian vaccine that can reach Hungary for a maximum of public relations campaigns. Current Hungarian regulations do not allow mass vaccination of the Hungarian population with the Sputnik V vaccine in the foreseeable future. However, by joining clinical trials, the government could vaccinate several thousand Hungarian volunteers before Western vaccines arrive.

There is also a high level of mistrust surrounding the Russian vaccine in Russia. In particular, the lack of publicly available information and the extremely rapid development are considered suspicious by health professionals who, if they could, would reject the vaccine.
