Attila Mihály Nagy may be the new president of the National Electoral Office.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán proposes the appointment of Attila Mihály Nagy, Undersecretary of State for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, as head of the National Electoral Office (NVI), Bertalan Havasi, Undersecretary of State for the Press Office of the Prime Minister.

The new President of the National Electoral Office is appointed by the President of the Republic on the proposal of the Prime Minister for a period of nine years. Havasi said the head of government had taken steps to remove the presidential candidate from the post of secretary of state as of September 14.

The previous president, Ilona Pálffy, announced her resignation or retirement on August 25. She has held the position since May 24, 2013, when NVI was established.

The former editorial office of index.hu has essentially ceased to exist, the country has lost its most read online interface. This is one of the most serious blows to the independent Hungarian press and freedom of information to date. The number of independent power editorial boards is steadily declining, and those that still exist are trying to stay afloat in a growing headwind. At HVG, we persevere, not giving in to pressure to bring in national and international news every day.

That is why we ask you, our readers, to support us, support us, join our membership and renew it!

And we promise to keep doing our best for you in all circumstances!
