It is decided at a professional level which vaccine can be administered.

Coronavirus: the second wave, the second closure

Later than expected by many, but in mid-November, the Hungarian government also decided to try to curb the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic by introducing restrictions. At the time of the decision, 5,000 new infections a day had been identified and the number of deaths from the virus mostly ranged from 50 to 100 in 24 hours. The first step is a partial closure, but how effective it is is questionable. Follow our news!

There is no choice between coronavirus vaccines, National Medical Director Cecília Müller said Tuesday at a press conference of operational staff in response to a question from hvg.hu. We wondered if someone would sign up for the vaccine, if they would have a choice between vaccines or not, or if they would decline the offered vaccine, put themselves back at the bottom of the list.

Müller said they will start vaccination with the vaccine they believe is safe and effective. Vaccination is not an option because it will be professionally decided which one to administer.

To our question, Müller did not answer what happens if someone wants another vaccine instead of the one offered, but at the beginning of the leaflet he said no, that although someone has registered now, they are not obliged to give the vaccine either. Müller spoke about the fact that only vaccines classified as safe by the Hungarian authorities will be administered at home, there is a possibility of mass vaccination in the first quarter of 2021.

The government is working to make vaccines available from a wide range of manufacturers, with 17.5 million vaccines so far tied to various manufacturers.

One that could emerge is the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. This is already being studied at home, and Hungarians can also participate in their clinical trials: Miklós Kásler spoke about this on Monday. The Human Resources minister said that using the “generously offered” option, three to five thousand Hungarian citizens could be vaccinated. At the same time, many are concerned about the Russian vaccination and there are scientists who say that the results of the vaccine trials may have been falsified, according to published figures.

Documentation of an antibody from a Chinese vaccine manufacturer may also reach Hungary in a few days, Müller said on Monday, a different type of vaccine than the Russian one.

The government has contracted for 5 million doses of a coronavirus vaccine developed jointly by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford, but the manufacturers have had to repeat some of their tests due to a manufacturing defect.

One could also consider the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, BNT162b2, which could be approved in Europe in December but has already been approved in the UK. Manufacturers said in November that the vaccine was 95 percent effective and had no serious side effects, and that a 90-year-old woman had already been vaccinated “live”.

A company called Moderna in the US has developed its coronavirus vaccine based on the same research as Pfizer, and the EU decided on its vaccine in January. The advantage of the latter over Pfizer is that it should be stored at minus 80 degrees, while Moderna is sufficient to store at minus 20 degrees. Plus, it’s guaranteed for 30 days, compared to five days for the Pfizer vaccine.

During registration, the vaccination registry website offers two types of data management, in one case our data will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office headed by Antal Rogán.
