From a party politics point of view, Mohács rarely seems to be an interesting deal, but since the local government elections last October, Hungary has become a particularly strange spot due to tragedy. Fidesz’s József Szekó, who has been confidently leading the Baranya settlement with a population of 17,000 since 1998, passed away a few weeks before the elections, so the party could no longer register a new candidate, and the socialist Ferenc Csorbai, who began to support the opposition.

In fact, Csorbai still finished only second in 2019, as he received 4,076 invalid votes in addition to his 1,876 votes, after he was also unsuccessfully asked to resign by opposition parties supporting him. Then everything indicated that he would only be mayor for a very short time, because if he had not resigned, the law could have dissolved the majority body of deputies of Fidesz at the beginning of 2020 (eight of the 11 seats), but then came the coronavirus, which led to Csorbai Mohács still being mayor of Ferenc, and will continue to be until the interim elections on September 27, where Csorbai will play against Gábor Pávkovics and Csilla Bernáth (Nuestro País) from Fidesz.

Csorbai says a lot about his political strength in the past nine months, that he was unable to bring in his own deputy mayor, so he eventually became the mayoral candidate, Gábor Pávkovics. To make sure Fidesz is safe, like Borsod, he threw away the family card: the daughter of the former mayor, Zsófia Szekó, also goes to one of the seats, and in July an interview with her was published about wanting to finish her job. father.

It is a long and pleasant job, since Mohács has been really massively Fidesz for 22 years: in the mayoral elections Szekó in 1998 it was 51.93, in 2002 82.43, in 2006 69.64, in 2010 74.67 , in 2014- and received 69.72 percent. Csorbai recently fired him and denounced the city’s ruling party, a particularly favored secretary. His case is already being investigated by the police after he wanted to pay extra wages for work already done, but by no means does this case seem to be able to overthrow a strong Fidesz, even if it had Seco’s personal charm in addition to the name of the party. earlier. Csorbait supports MSZP, DK, and Jobbik, which helps with the absence of Momentum.

“I’ve noticed that this Csorbai can’t really speak in context. Pávkovics somehow stands out better ”, summed up his uncle, in his 70s, sitting with his dog by the Danube. The current deputy mayor not only follows the greatest of Fidesz, but also in the campaign: although looking at the streets of Mohács he is the only candidate, he does not consider it important to publish a special program on Facebook or on the street other than that he represents Fidesz.
