The former mayor’s brother, Gyula Bogdán, an independent candidate, won the by-elections on Sunday in Cserdi, Baranya county.

Of the two independent candidates for office, Gyula Bogdán obtained 111 votes and József Panek 74 votes. Of the 277 eligible voters, 191 voted; 6 voters voted invalid.

An interim election was needed in the settlement on the western edge of Mecsek because the town’s independent mayor, László Bogdán, who had been elected last year since 2006, passed away in July.

Under the mayor of László Bogdán, crime in the settlement essentially ceased, he brought the unemployed to work; they also support the urban poor with goods produced in the local economy. There have been many articles on the Cserd model, László Bogdán has become something of a media star in the last decade.
