The rate of decline is the same among certain party voters and the entire population. According to a poll by the Republican Institute, the united opposition has between 4 and 5 percent more support than the ruling parties.
Support for Fidesz-KDNP is steadily declining, with government parties losing 4 percentage points since October for both the general population and party voters, according to a survey of thousands of representatives conducted by telephone at the Republican Institute of 8 to December 15.
The institute sees three reasons behind the significant decline:
- assessment of epidemic management,
- the conflict situation over the EU budget veto,
- successive scandals such as the Szájer case and the controversial statements by Szilárd Demeter and Tamás Deutsch.
The combined result of the cooperating opposition parties (DK, Momentum, Jobbik, MSZP, Dialogue, LMP), both among the total population and among party voters, is higher than that of Fidesz – KDNP. The opposition reached 35% of the total population, compared to 30% for Fidesz-KDNP, and among voters from safe parties, the result was 50%, compared to 46% for ruling parties.
Meanwhile, there is still no significant shift in the opposition’s balance of power: the Democratic Coalition still has the highest level of support, although the Momentum is only slightly behind them.
And the total population remains politically divided into three almost equal parts: pro-government voters (30%), opposition voters (37%), and insecure voters (33%).
The number of independent power editorial boards is steadily decreasing, and those that still exist are trying to stay afloat in a growing headwind. At HVG we persevere, we do not give in to pressure and we bring national and international news every day.
