If someone in these institutions and venues does not wear a mask properly or at all, they can be fined up to 15,000 HUF on the spot, and the owner of the venue may receive an administrative fine of up to 50,000 HUF.

According to the filing, the administrative fine can be imposed by the Chief Notary of Budapest, and the on-site fines can be imposed by the employees of the Public Area Inspectorate.

Budapest Transport Center flights have been tougher before: those who travel without a mask or wear it wrong can be fined 8,000 guilders.

The government is also tightening the rules for wearing a mask. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in an interview on Saturday night that if someone does not put on a mask in prescribed places, such as a store, he and the merchant will be punished.
