The man told his colleagues when he saw the peacock that he would not get one at a restaurant, and then killed the animal.

A 37-year-old villager who caught and smothered a peacock in Kiskören in early November to prepare soup for it received a year of suspended prison.

A Heol.hu submitted a statement from the court detailing how the case had occurred. The peacock escaped from the courtyard of a cabin in Kisköre, which was spotted by a brigade of four public workers working at the end of the street. One of them told his colleagues that he would catch the animal because “you can’t even get one in the restaurant.” When he killed the peacock, he hid it in his coat and took it home.

According to the court, the man testified and waived his right to a trial. The Heves District Court convicted the defendant for a crime of animal torture and a crime of robbery, sentenced him to one year in prison, the execution of which was suspended for a probationary period of two years. The judgment is final.

The court ordered the execution of the civil lawsuit filed by the owner of the peacock by other legal means.

The murdered 5-year-old male peacock, Boris, was a real tourist attraction in the area. Its owner had previously written on Facebook that it could have lived up to fifty years.
