Border guards suspected that the Hungarian diplomat had presented a passport, but his car no longer had diplomatic plates.

A former MSZP member of parliament wanted to come to Hungary from Ukraine with a diplomatic passport, writes Telex referring to the Ukrainian newspaper Yevropeyska Pravda. The newspaper reported that Zsolt Legény de Kisvárda tried to enter the country through the Beregsurány-Luzsanka border crossing.

According to the article, border guards suspected a man arriving without a Ukrainian accreditation showing a diplomatic passport and without a diplomatic plate in his car. When asked to show what was in the car, he refused and invoked diplomatic protection. Finally, a representative of the Hungarian consulate was summoned and the trunk was opened in his presence. A large number of cigarettes were found in the trunk, according to a video from customs.

The politician with a law degree was a deputy for the MSZP between 2006 and 2010 and between 2014 and 2018. The party responded to the case in a statement Thursday night. They confirmed that they really valued a bachelor in action while smoking cigarettes. They also added that “Zsolt Legény resigned from all party positions tonight and resigned from the MSZP. We initiated the immediate revocation of his diplomatic passport.”
