A woman tore a rabbi’s kip and screamed and threatened with a knife in Vienna on Thursday, the Austrian news agency APA reported, citing the Interior Ministry, adding that there was an apparently anti-Semitic attack condemned by Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.

No one was injured in the attack, the woman fled the scene, police said.
According to Oe24 Austrian News TV the rabbi told the police: passersby looked away instead of trying to help him.

“An attack on the Jews of Vienna. In addition to strengthening the protection of the synagogues, we will find out if it was an anti-Semitic attack. We will not tolerate anti-Semitism!” – Home Secretary Karl Nehammer wrote on Twitter.

Chancellor Kurz put it on Twitter: I condemn in the strongest terms today’s attack on Vienna, which affected a rabbi. We must take strong action against anti-Semitism and do everything we can to ensure that Jews can continue to live safely in Vienna, because Europe without Jews is not Europe.
