In Austria, 3,614 new infections have been recorded in the last 24 hours, a significant increase from 2,571 the day before. In the last seven days, an average of 172.1 people per 100,000 inhabitants has been registered. By comparison, in Germany, the rate is 68.4 percent, according to a survey by the Robert Koch Institute. According to a summary by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, so far 965 people have died from complications of Covid-19 disease in the country. The epidemic situation is most serious in the provinces of Salzburg, Tirol and Vorarlberg.

Starting Sunday, however, new restrictions will take effect, and smaller private gatherings will be allowed to take place in a closed room for up to six people at a time and 12 outdoors. They can accommodate up to a thousand in larger enclosed spaces and up to 1,500 for massive outdoor events. In addition, the list of places where it is mandatory to wear a protective mask has been expanded, such as in stations and train stations and in shopping centers. This has already been mandatory in public transport and ski lifts.
